Southern Burgenland is probably the most original wine landscape in Burgenland. While viticulture around the better-known Lake Neusiedl can also be carried out with great success on the plain, here it is the hilly locations, inclined towards the south or southeast, which enable the excellent quality of the wine. Away from the beaten path, this scenic gem is waiting to be discovered by you. A lot of things are amazing in southern Burgenland, just the company structure. Mostly part-time winemakers, only a few larger companies cultivate the small vineyard area.
With around 515 hectares, the Eisenberg wine-growing region is the smallest generic wine-growing region in Austria. It extends on the southern slopes of the Geschreibenstein and on the slopes in the Pinkatal and is characterized by many small vineyards that nestle harmoniously in the gentle hills. The region that borders Hungary is primarily used for viticulture because of its favorable climatic conditions. The warm, humid growing season, which can sometimes be interrupted by dry periods, is contrasted with moderately cold winters. Occasional late frosts prevent viticulture from taking place here in the valleys and plains. The Eisenberg itself is a weather phenomenon: the special basin location seems to be so favored by the weather that this vineyard is only very rarely affected by severe events such as hail or heavy rain. Thank God

Starting from the Bernstein Mountains, over the highest peak in the country, the Geschreibenstein, this region extends to the picturesque Csaterberg, the Eisenberg and Deutsch Schützener Berg. The gently rolling landscape is a paradise for hikers and cyclists. If you want to combine nature with culture, you can visit events at Burg Bernstein or Burg Güssig, but also at Friedensburg Schlaining and much more.
Cyclists can choose between sporty adventures and leisure bike tours. More than 40 km of the finest single trail fun await you on the Burgenland Trails, while the Southern Burgenland Paradise Route runs 260 km long across southern Burgenland. If you want to play a round of golf or if you feel like relaxing and switching off, there are thermal baths and golf courses in Bad Tatzmannsdorf or Stegersbach.
